Washington, DC - The American Health Care Association (AHCA) issued the following statement from President and CEO Mark Parkinson in response to today’s Senate confirmation of Marilyn Tavenner as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) administrator:

“AHCA is pleased to see the Senate confirm the first CMS administrator in nearly seven years. With nearly 80 percent of individuals relying on Medicare or Medicaid for their skilled nursing care, having a steady, experienced leader such as Marilyn Tavenner will be beneficial for patients and providers alike. AHCA looks forward to collaborating with Ms. Tavenner and the entire agency as we find innovative solutions to providing quality care.”

The American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) represent more than 12,000 non-profit and proprietary skilled nursing centers, assisted living communities, sub-acute centers and homes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. By delivering solutions for quality care, AHCA/NCAL aims to improve the lives of the millions of frail, elderly and individuals with disabilities who receive long term or post-acute care in our member facilities each day.
