FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

11/29/2011

Washington, D.C. —
The American Health Care Association (AHCA) today announced its theme for the 2012 National Nursing Home Week (NNHW) observance: Celebrating the Journey. NNHW will be observed in nursing facilities throughout America, beginning Mother’s Day, May 13 and continuing through May 19, 2012.

NNHW 2012 recognizes residents in long term care settings who live life to the fullest and the dedicated staff who care for them. This observance is a perfect opportunity to involve families, community members, youth and others in a community-wide show of support and respect for these individuals and the staff who provide the care or provide support services. Activities are designed to foster intergenerational contact, strengthen family relationships and to encourage volunteerism by individuals and local organizations.

AHCA will develop a planning guide and themed promotional products for NNHW. For periodic updates and a PDF, visit www.nnhw.org or www.facebook.com/nursinghomeweek.

The American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) represent nearly 11,000 non-profit and proprietary facilities dedicated to continuous improvement in the delivery of professional and compassionate care provided daily by millions of caring employees to 1.5 million of our nation's frail, elderly and disabled citizens who live in nursing facilities, assisted living residences, subacute centers and homes for persons with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
