Phoenix, AZ – Today the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) welcomed nearly 3,000 long term and post-acute providers to the association’s 64th Annual Convention and Expo in Phoenix, Ariz. During the next three days, convention attendees will learn ways to improve their operations and provide better care to their patients and residents through informative educational sessions and motivating speakers, all of which tie into this year’s convention theme, ‘Be Inspired.’

The morning’s Opening General Session encouraged providers to continue to fulfill AHCA/NCAL’s mission statement: improving lives by delivering solutions for quality care. Individual members exemplifying the mission were highlighted through video testimony, and association leadership remarked on the profession’s ongoing quality improvements and advocacy message.

“Over the past few years, our members have risen above extraordinary challenges and triumphed. They have truly been the solution for our seniors and for our nation’s policymakers,” said Mark Parkinson, President and CEO of AHCA/NCAL. “We look forward to celebrating our providers’ tremendous accomplishments here in Phoenix, and continuing this important work beyond convention.”

“Convention provides a great opportunity to reflect on the past year,” said Neil Pruitt, Jr., Chair of the AHCA Board of Governors. “Whether making measurable progress through our Quality Initiative or uniting our profession with other associations, our members should be proud of what they have accomplished in 2013. However, we still have work to do, and we must stay fixed on our goals.”

Dr. Benjamin Carson, renowned and retired surgeon and professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, delivered today’s opening keynote address. Dr. Carson told attendees about his life story of growing up in poverty and persevering to fulfill his dream of becoming a doctor. On Wednesday, convention attendees will hear from Closing General Session keynote speaker Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.

The 64th Annual AHCA/NCAL Convention will run through Wednesday, October 9.
