As a long term care professional, you understand the trends, issues, and challenges facing our industry. Now is your chance to share that knowledge and experience as part of AHCA/NCAL’s 2011 Convention program.

From success stories to professional insights, you can use this national forum to share programs and ideas that enhance the long term care service delivery.

We are a profession dedicated to transforming health and health care into a spectrum of valued, fully compensated care and service utilizing modern, technology-based systems, resulting in high quality care and services at the lowest sustainable overall cost. Our goal is to provide a spectrum of patient/resident-centered care and services, which nurture not only the individual’s health but their lives as well by preserving their connections with extended family and friends, and promoting their dignity, respect, independence, and choice.

We invite you to submit a seminar proposal in one of the following domains practiced in long term care: Assisted Living, Business Management, Care Practice, Culture Change, Financial Management, Human Resources, Innovations and Advances, Leadership, Marketing and Public Relations, Performance Excellence, Risk Management, and Survey and Certification. 

Presentation Information

Seminar Focus: The goal of the convention professional development seminars is to meet the needs of each provider constituency with highly targeted programming. Proposals must demonstrate the recognition of the shared and unique characteristics of the following constituencies: skilled nursing, assisted living, subacute, DD residential services, multi-facilities, not for profit, and independent owners.

Audiovisual Equipment & Handouts: Speakers are required to bring their own laptops.  We provide the additional equipment needed to deliver seminars effectively. Speakers are also encouraged to prepare handouts that will be provided to attendees electronically.

Audience Characteristics: AHCA/NCAL represents more than 11,000 long term care facilities, providing care and services to more than one million elderly and disabled people. The convention draws approximately 3,000 attendees, the majority of which are facility owners, corporate management, administrators, and facility specialists. The audience is experienced and knowledgeable and expects the most current information and highest quality training available.

Submission Policies

Proposals must meet the following requirements. Failure to meet these requirements will result in disqualification.

  • We strongly encourage you to submit your proposal electronically. The application can be found on the website – www.ahcancal.org
  • A maximum of three proposals may be submitted from a single individual or organization. A fully completed application must accompany each proposal. 
  • Do not include additional materials such as brochures or articles. NO PowerPoint presentations should be submitted as a proposal. These will not be reviewed.
  • Submissions must be on the original application form
  • Proposals must be free of any promotional or commercial content.
  • All proposals must be received by September 6, 2010. We will not accept proposals sent by fax.

Selection & Notification

A team of long term care experts review all seminar proposals.  Proposals are reviewed for:

  • Unique and timely value of content;
  • Relevance to the needs of key constituencies;
  • Overall quality, originality, and timeliness;
  • Use of instructional methods and organization; and
  • Practical, results-oriented applications

Individuals submitting proposals will be notified in writing on or before March 30, 2011 regarding results of the selection process.  Prior to that date, AHCA/NCAL cannot accept phone calls or e-mails inquiring about the status of particular proposals. Potential speakers should tentatively reserve all of the conference dates September 18 – 21, 2011 to ensure availability.

Speaker Expenses/Honoraria

For over half a century, AHCA/NCAL has earned a reputation for providing high quality educational programs. We select speakers who share their expertise for the overall benefit of the long term care profession. Therefore, AHCA/NCAL does not pay per diem, honoraria, or expenses. However, the convention registration fee is waived for all speakers.
