2011 “NFP Facility of the Year” Award Recipient

AHCA is happy to announce that Maple Leaf Care Center, a skilled nursing facility in Manchester, NH is the winner of the 2011 "NFP Facility of the Year" award. Maple Leaf has been in operation for the last 30 years, and is led by Jeffrey Schwartz, Administrator.

Of particular note is Maple Leaf's Community Service Program, which is in its ninth year of operation. The program provides health care services and a variety of education to residents in public housing properties managed by the Manchester Housing and Redevelopment Authority (MHRA.) Some of the specific services include:
  • Bi-monthly health screening clinics
  • Education programs on fall prevention, medication management, nutrition
  • Exercise programs, and much more.

The bi-monthly healthcare screenings, held at two different apartment sites, are particularly beneficial as they are so convenient for residents and they allow for regular monitoring of vital signs, medications, etc. Nurses who administer the screenings keep detailed clinical records, and they can determine if residents' conditions can be managed on-site or if referral to a doctor is needed. This saves residents the time and inconvenience to go out for doctors appointments, and decreases the influx of patients into already overwhelmed doctors offices when such visits could be handled off site.

Maple Leaf's mission is "to be the leader in customer satisfaction, to provide care in a better way, day after day, and to ensure that our customers know that care is our business." Maple's Leafs Community Service Program certainly shows that it is meeting its mission!

AHCA/NCAL’s Not for Profit Council

The NFP Council supports and facilitates the Association’s mission, vision and policy goals in an ongoing effort to ensure that long term care is viewed as one profession, speaking in one voice, delivering a unified message. The Council also has primary responsibility to focus on those issues and needs that arise specific to the NFP constituency.

Vision: To empower NFP LTC providers as they meet the personal, spiritual, and healthcare needs of the individuals that they serve.

Mission:
  • To support, advise and influence AHCA in its global mission to help LTC providers deliver high quality care and services to America’s frail, elderly and disabled.
  • To use Council members’ in-depth, NFP-specific expertise to strengthen AHCA member services, cultivate Association leadership, and provide specific support services to meet the needs of AHCA NFP members.

Facility Tours

One way that NFPs can have a huge impact on legislators is to invite them, or a member of their staff, to tour your facility.  AHCA’s “How-to Guide” is a valuable resource for hosting facility tours, telling the story of your residents, and much more.  For assistance in planning your tour, contact Matt Smyth.

For more information on how NFPs can engage in the political process, review the 2011 Congressional briefing session, “501(c )3 Organizations Lobbying and Political Activity.”
