Long term and post-acute care must remain a significant job creator
Washington DC – The following is a statement from the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living’s (AHCA/NCAL) President & CEO Governor Mark Parkinson following President Obama’s State of the Union address:
“The standards associated with President Obama’s Blueprint for America can all be found within long term and post-acute care. We are a profession built on the values of hard work, dedication, and care for our fellow man. The backbone of our profession is family-owned and operated businesses whose mission is to provide high quality healthcare to millions of older Americans and individuals with disabilities.
“Just as this is a make or break moment for the middle class, it is a make or break moment for long term and post-acute care. Reductions in reimbursement, such as those we have sustained in 2011, only threaten our future and the 3.1 million jobs we provide. Stable, steady funding must be obtained to ensure access to both care and jobs is there when it is needed most.”
