NCAL Awards Program

Another of the Caregiving for Our Caregivers initiatives is NCAL’s national awards program recognizing the exemplary work of members’ employees. The Awards began with one category: the NCAL Noble Caregiver Award, adding in subsequent years the Administrator of the Year Award, and the National Assisted Living Week (NALW) Programming Award and the NCAL Nurse of the Year Award. The programming award recognizes a community for a week of outstanding activities that integrate residents, family members, volunteers, staff and the surrounding community based on the NALW previous year’s theme. The winners will be recognized at a special awards ceremony on NCAL Day, October 7, 2012 in Tampa, Florida.

Congratulations to the 2011 NCAL Award Winners!

The National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) is proud to announce the 2011 recipients of the Administrator of the Year, the Assisted Living Nurse of the Year, Noble Caregiver in Assisted Living, and the National Assisted Living Week Programming Awards. These winners represent the best in the nation in the assisted living profession.

NCAL Administrator of the Year

Robin Aman
Administrator
Rock Cove Assisted Living
Stevenson, Wash.

Robin Aman exemplifies the qualities of a committed and heartfelt administrator, successfully leading her staff in enriching the lives of their residents. Her personal and professional goal is “to be able to continue to serve my community, providing the highest quality of care for those who need assistance.” “When someone moves in, we don’t just help tend to their needs, we adopt them as family.” See the September 2011 issue of NCAL FOCUS for details on Ms. Aman’s many accomplishments.

NCAL Assisted Living Nurse of the Year

Rachel Ellis
Assistant Administrator of Resident Care
Gardens at Osage Terrace
Bentonville, AR

“Her everyday work ethic, compassion, empathy, and heartfelt care make a difference in the lives of seniors,” says Kim Goins, administrator of the Gardens. Ellis’ outstanding compassion and person-centered care were demonstrated when, after a resident’s daughter died, Ellis took the afternoon off and took the resident out for some ice cream just like her daughter used to do. Ellis helped the resident grieve by listening and reminiscing with the resident. See the September 2011 issue of NCAL FOCUS for more details on Ms. Ellis’ accomplishments.

Noble Caregiver in Assisted Living

Eugene Ring
Environmental Engineer
Heritage at Dover
Dover, DE

During the day, Eugene Ring is the environmental engineer. In the summertime, he might be grill master, and at Christmas time he’s Santa Claus. “In the past five years Eugene has been with us,” says Executive Director Vickie Cox, “he has improved the well-being and overall morale of this community with his everyday outgoing attitude, demonstration of initiative, and by going above and beyond his regular duties.” See the September 2011 issue of NCAL FOCUS for more details on Mr. Ring’s accomplishments.

Living life is just what the residents of the Ponderosa Assisted Living Community did during the 2010 celebration of National Assisted Living Week. “Our activities were tailored for the residents’ enjoyment,” says Lori Crow. “These activities acknowledged and reminded the residents of how many people’s lives they continue to touch, while celebrating their own lives’ pasts, present, and future.” Ponderosa successfully incorporated the 2010 theme “Living Life” into their activity plans which resulted in outstanding special activities and community events for residents, their families, staff, and volunteers. See the September 2011 issue of NCAL FOCUS for more details on Ponderosa’s accomplishments.
