AHCA Urges Nursing Homes Join Game Changing Data Project

The impact of the last few years of the COVID-19 pandemic has revealed the need for better nursing home-specific data. In response to this need, the National Institute on Aging has funded the creation of the Long Term Care Data Cooperative.

The Long Term Care Data Cooperative is a partnership between skilled nursing care providers, the American Health Care Association (AHCA) and leading electronic medical records (EMR) companies – American HealthTech, MatrixCare and PointClickCare. Together, the Cooperative is developing a new way to close the data gap to help providers with resident care and to better understand the most effective treatments before next public health emergency.

As a member of the Cooperative, providers receive reports that will:

  • Provide information on residents at risk for adverse events including hospitalizations, polypharmacy, and infection control.
  • Provide more timely quality measures used in CMS's value-based payment program to determine reimbursement payments. It provides nursing homes with valuable information for their improvement plans before it is too late.
  • Provide information that can help prepare for survey visits.

AHCA Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Gifford urges all skilled nursing care centers to learn more and join today. It is free, secure, and easy to enroll. To get started, skilled nursing care providers should email LTCDataCooperative@ahca.org to receive the participation agreement, which includes a Business Associate Agreement and an authorization form to allow your EMR vendor to transfer data to the Cooperative. Once registration is completed, AHCA will contact your vendor on your behalf to begin the data transfer process.

Participation in the research component of the Cooperative is voluntary and is not required.
