Be Well in AL Initiative

Assisted Living; AHCA/NCAL Updates; Long Term Care

This fall, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published 43 recommendations for medical and mental health care in assisted living (AL). Representatives of numerous national organizations developed the recommendations and are leading the “Be Well in AL” initiative to put the recommendations into practice.

AL providers and staff are invited to join the "Be Well in AL" launch webinar, taking place on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, from 12:00-1:00 PM ET. The webinar will introduce the new recommendations related to:
  • Staff and staff training
  • Nursing and related services
  • Resident assessment and care planning
  • Policies and practices
  • Medical and mental health clinicians and care

Participants will also learn about opportunities to promote the new recommendations by joining the "Be Well in AL" coalition.

AL is the largest provider of residential long term care in the United States. As the field has grown, there has been increasing concern about the medical and mental health care needs of AL residents. The new recommendations introduced through the Be Well in AL initiative provide a pragmatic guide for practitioners and policymakers alike and can help inform decisions related to medical and mental health care in assisted living.
