The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recently announced the availability of a new Web-Based Training (WBT) course called “Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) Provision (June 2020)” available through the Medicare Learning Network Learning Management System. Access to the free training will require establishing a account with a logon password.

Per CMS, the course will cover material important for provider billers and health care providers on when Medicare may pay first or second or make conditional payments. It will also review the Ongoing Responsibility for Medicals (ORMs) provision and the role of the Benefits Coordination & Recovery Center. A certificate of completion of 70 minutes of contact credits is being offered for successful completion of the course.
By the end of this course participants should be able to:

  • Identify MSP provisions, including their origins.
  • Recognize when Medicare is primary and secondary.
  • Identify their responsibilities, as a provider, to comply with MSP provisions.
  • Identify the CMS resources available when they have MSP questions.
