PHI Report on Direct Care Worker Disparities and New Equity Institute

Workforce

On February 8, 2022, PHI released a report entitled, Direct Care Worker Disparities: Key Trends and Challenges. PHI notes that this research brief offers “a detailed snapshot of the direct care workforce by gender and race/ethnicity, and underscores the need for policy and practice interventions that explicitly address disparities in this workforce.” One of the key takeaways of the report include that most direct care workers are women and people of color, and women of color in particular are a large and growing segment of the direct care workforce. This week, PHI also created a new Direct Care Worker Equity Institute that will, among other things, maintain a centralized online hub of equity-focused direct care workforce resources and publications.
