Pressure Builds to Address Staffing Agency Price Gouging

Workforce

Last week, three new letters from industry leaders and members of Congress called on the White House to address anticompetitive practices by nurse and other direct care staffing agencies during the COVID-19 pandemic. AHCA/NCAL partnered with the American Hospital Association in sending a joint letter to White House COVID-19 Response Team Coordinator Jeffrey Zients requesting the federal government’s assistance. Meanwhile, nearly 200 members of the U.S. House of Representatives led by Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) and Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA) also sent a bipartisan letter to Zients earlier this week calling on the Administration to enlist one or more federal agencies to investigate the exorbitant rates charged by staffing agencies. Finally, an AHCA/NCAL led long term care coalition sent a letter to Zients focused on this matter.

Last year, AHCA/NCAL sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on the staff agency price gouging matter that can be found here. Advancing Excellence, of which AHCA/NCAL is a member, recently sent a letter to the FTC on this issue as well that you can find here. The federal agency has yet to respond to these letters.
