The top source in senior housing economics takes “A Look at Occupancy and What Lies Ahead” and explains how the marketplace is going to move out of its current pandemic quagmire and return to historical supply-demand fundamentals soon enough in the March Provider.

Beth Burnham Mace, chief economist and director of outreach at the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing and Care, chats not only about occupancy but also how certain markets were seeing too much supply even before the pandemic, while others saw the opposite.

Markets are not totally under water even with the pandemic, and they were not all rosy before the virus took hold last winter, Mace says. The pandemic shuffled the deck beyond anyone’s expectation and will have an impact for months to come, but the basics remain clear: Nursing homes and assisted living communities are here to stay, and there will be a clear start to the return to normalcy in 2021.
