AHCA Statement on Skilled Nursing Facility Prospective Payment System Proposed Rule

Regulations; Reimbursement

WASHINGTON D.C. – The American Health Care Association (AHCA), representing more than 14,000 nursing homes and other long term care facilities across the country that provide care to approximately five million people each year, released a statement today in response to the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Prospective Payment System fiscal year (FY) 2024 proposed rule released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The agency is proposing a net increase of 3.7 percent in Medicare Part A payments to SNFs in FY 2024.

The following statement is attributable to AHCA President and CEO Mark Parkinson:

“We appreciate that CMS has considered the soaring costs nursing home providers are grappling with due to the labor crisis and record inflation in recent years. It is vital that Medicare reflect the increasing costs—including those imposed by government mandates—nursing homes are facing to ensure our vulnerable residents can access the care they need. We look forward to submitting comments to CMS on this proposed rule.”
