Washington, D.C. —The American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) has partnered with the
Gerontological Society of America,
LeadingAge, and
Argentum to celebrate C
areers in Aging Week, which kicks off today. AHCA/NCAL is taking this week to highlight the honorable work being done in the long term care (LTC) profession during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There has never been a time like this,” said AHCA/NCAL President & CEO Mark Parkinson. “Millions of people living in America’s skilled nursing centers and assisted living communities depend on our providers every day for vital care. There are so many amazing stories of dedication, sacrifice, and compassion by long term care professionals who are going above and beyond to ensure the safety, health, and happiness of our residents during this unprecedented time. These individuals are saving lives; they are heroes.”
AHCA/NCAL will celebrate caregivers all week through its social media outlets, including
Twitter and
Facebook. Examples include:
- An assisted living facility in Brownsburg, Indiana said its top priority is making sure residents are engaged with their families and the outside community. “We absolutely adore witnessing these residents light up seeing their loved ones,” a caregiver said.
- Cornerstone Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Mississippi shared a video that demonstrates they aren’t “just surviving, but thriving” as they dance to the Bee Gees classic “Stayin’ Alive” while educating viewers about safe hygiene and social distancing practices.

Careers in Aging Week, an annual celebration, is also a time dedicated to bringing greater awareness and visibility to the wide-ranging and rewarding career opportunities in LTC for the next generation. The AHCA/NCAL
