Washington, DC – The American Health Care Association (AHCA) today applauded the selection of Marilyn Tavenner to serve as the Principal Deputy Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).  As former Secretary of Health and Human Resources for the Commonwealth of Virginia, a hospital executive and a front-line caregiver, Tavenner will bring a broad-range of experience to her role in directing our nation’s Medicare and Medicaid programs.

“Ms. Tavenner’s longstanding history as an accessible and effective leader demonstrates her commitment to the issues impacting the long term and post-acute care community and the 3.2 million elderly and disabled patients we care for annually,” said Bruce Yarwood, President and CEO of AHCA.  “We look forward to working collectively with Deputy Administrator Tavenner and her colleagues at CMS to ensure that America’s most vulnerable populations have ready access to the highest quality care and services.”

As the nation’s largest association of long term and post-acute care providers, the American Health Care Association (AHCA) advocates for quality care and services for frail, elderly and disabled Americans. Compassionate and caring employees provide essential care to one million individuals in our 11,000 not-for-profit and proprietary member facilities.
