Please use the resources below, including a planning guide, promotional resources, products, and graphics to celebrate this year. Participants are asked to share their celebrations throughout the week on social media using #NALW. About National Assisted Living Week Established by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) in 1995, National Assisted Living Week® provides a unique opportunity for residents, their loved ones, staff, volunteers, and the surrounding communities to recognize the role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities. The annual observance encourages assisted living communities around the country to offer a variety of events and activities to celebrate the individuals they serve, as well as to help educate members of the public about this distinctive aspect of long term care. Look for a reporter who has covered similar stories before, and make that connection. Send this at least a week prior to the event.Sample Letter to the EditorThese short articles provide greater control over the content of your message, as they can be authored by a designated representative of the community (e.g., executive director). Share how your assisted living community helps residents explore their creative side with your local newspaper and magazine editors.Sample Press ReleaseNews releases are used to alert the local media of significant events, issues, services, programs, awards, and other events. Send the release to your local news editors and reporters, especially those who have previously covered your assisted living community.Sample ProclamationProclamations are a great mechanism to have your locally elected officials visit your community.
