Risk/Gain Sharing Opportunities for Skilled Nursing Providers

CJR: What Do We Know from the Initial Data

This session will examine early provider experience in the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) bundled payment demonstration. AHCA’s James Michel, Senior Director, Medicare Research & Reimbursement, will provide a look at what we know from trends in the most recent data, as well as a discussion of questions that remain unanswered. They will provide an overview of the strategies that both hospitals and skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) have employed in response to the CJR program, and the impacts they are having on SNF business. Speakers will also provide an overview of AHCA member resources on alternative payment models.

​How to Create an Advantageous SNF-ACO Partnership

Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) are likely to continue to figure prominently in the health care space. Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF) must continue to explore creative strategies to build viable relationships. In this session, led by Shawn Matheson, Leavitt Partners LLC and a Florida-based ACO and SNF, members will probe business strategies and value propositions for building successful SNF-ACO partnerships. Analysis will include: a) results from Leavitt Partner’s interviews of ACO leaders on their specific PAC strategies, b) a discussion of fraud & abuse and three-day waivers, c) a highlight of various SNF partnership frameworks. The session will also include an ACO’s presentation on their success with SNF optimization. Attendees will have an opportunity for Q&A at the end of the session.

Dr. David Gifford, AHCA’s Senior Vice President of Quality and Regulatory, Stacey Hord, Vice President for Quality at Golden Living and Chair of the AHCA Quality Improvement Committee, and Marylyn Wood, President/CEO Opis Management Resources LLC will share data with attendees on each of their Center’s rehospitalization rates and lead a panel discussion on strategies for operating in value-based purchasing environment that focuses on rehospitalization and shorter LOS.
