The Two Big Unfixables – Aging and Dying. A Discussion about Being Mortal

During the session, we will screen the FRONTLINE documentary that follows renowned writer and surgeon Atul Gawande as he explores the relationships doctors have with patients who are nearing the end of life. The film investigates the practice of caring for those in aging decline, chronic disease, and the dying.  It shows how doctors are often remarkably untrained, ill-suited, and uncomfortable talking about chronic illness and death with their patients. Following the screening we will hear from Phil Fogg, Jr., President & CEO of the Marquis Companies and Consonus Healthcare, Gail Sheridan, Chief Clinical Operations Officer, Tealwood Senior Living, and Dr. David Gifford, AHCA/NCAL’s Senior Vice President for Quality and Regulatory on the importance of these discussions in long term care settings and how to incorporate them into your care culture.

Note: there will be a 10-minute break after the screening and before the discussion begins
