Research conducted in 2025 by the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing found compelling reasons to consider the
Gero Nurse Prep course for LPNs/LVNs and RNs. Nursing facilities with at least one nurse who had completed the Gero Nurse Prep course experienced:
- Lower turnover among CNAs, LPNs, and RNs
- Higher average occupancy rates
- Stable administrator retention
- Fewer survey deficiencies
- Reduced short-stay hospital readmission rates
- Higher RN hours per resident day
AHCA/NCAL’s Gero Nurse Prep course significantly increases nurses’ gerontological nursing knowledge and competency test scores. Nurses who complete Gero Nurse Prep show an average 24 percent increase between their pre- and post-course test scores even after working in long term care for a number of years.
Gero Nurse Prep is affordable practical training. AHCA/NCAL members can save $100 off the regular $790 price on the 30-hour Gero Nurse Prep course by using promo code AHCAPAYLESS at checkout.
Nurses have one year to complete Gero Nurse Prep and earn 30 ANCC nursing contact hours – enough to meet the criteria for taking the ANCC certification exam. RN Gero Nurse Prep grads who choose to sit for the ANCC gerontological nursing certification exam ($395 separate fee paid to ANCC) have a pass rate of 94% on their first try. RNs who pass the ANCC exam can then use the GERO-BC™ credential after their RN credential.
