Washington, D.C. —Mark Parkinson, President and CEO
at the American Health Care Association (AHCA), made the following statement
regarding the SNF PPS FY 2019 proposed rule from CMS. “Skilled nursing facilities care for
the most vulnerable in our country. For the millions of people who rely on
Medicare for skilled nursing care, it is important to protect access to care.
This rate increase is critical for providers who are struggling to make ends
meet and keep their doors open. Looking ahead, the nation will see a
significant increase in elderly Americans as the Baby Boomers begin to reach
age 85 in 2020. Adequate reimbursement and reasonable regulation must be
a priority as skilled nursing prepares for the Gray Tsunami.
“While we are still
analyzing the new payment system CMS proposes to implement in October 2019 in
this rule, we appreciate their effort to listen to input from providers and
make revisions. We will continue to analyze the proposal during the comment
period.”
