AHCA/NCAL Perspectives Video Honored with Gold Telly Award

Mom and daughter duo in Vermont make long term care “a family affair”

Awards and Recognition

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) video, “Perspectives: Long Term Care, a Family Affair,” has received Gold recognition in the 44th Annual Telly Awards, a premier awards program honoring video and television across all screens.

The four-minute film features Mary Louise Sayles and Patricia Horn, a mother and daughter, who are independent owners of Cedar Hill Continuing Care Community, a nursing home and assisted living community in Windsor, Vermont. The family resides on the property to stay close to their residents and staff. The video highlights the passion for caring for seniors which is shared within their family and extends throughout their entire staff.

“I grew up in a family that had a history of bringing other people into our home,” said Patricia Horn, Community Executive Director, Co-owner, and Licensed Administrator at Cedar Hill. “My mother and father taught me that family is important, you need to do what’s right, not just what’s easy. You need to be part of creating a better world. Every time I walk into Cedar Hill, I feel happy.”

Communities like Cedar Hill are common in long term care, as nearly half of U.S. nursing homes are owned by independent operators with 10 or fewer facilities. More than one-third are considered “mom and pop” operations with only one property.

Established in 1979, The Telly Awards receives over 12,000 entries from all 50 states and five continents. Entrants are judged by The Telly Awards Judging Council, an industry body of over 200 leading experts including advertising agencies, production companies, and major television networks, reflective of the multi-screen industry The Telly Awards celebrates.

“It is an honor and privilege to share the heartwarming and personal stories of our members, and to be recognized at this level makes it even more special,” said AHCA/NCAL President & CEO Mark Parkinson. “The care our members provide every day makes a difference in the lives of the millions of Americans they serve. We want others outside of long term care to see and understand the dedication and passion of the profession.”
