FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

8/29/2017
Washington, D.C. — The American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) President and CEO Mark Parkinson today issued the following statement regarding the OIG Alert:

“Any case of abuse or neglect is appalling and deeply troubling. It is despicable that anyone would prey on the elderly and most vulnerable in our country. Skilled nursing and assisted living centers comply with numerous regulations, along with state and federal laws, that protect our residents. Our members are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents. We have improved on key quality measures and across the profession, the quality of care we provide has never been better. Our association advises members on best practices and model policies for preventing abuse and neglect, and also reporting requirements when abuse is suspected. In response to allegations of abuse, our members know that facilities must report it immediately. We welcome any opportunity to work together with CMS and other government agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of  the individuals in our care.”
