FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

9/27/2010
Upon the announcement that Kansas Governor Mark Parkinson will be the next President and CEO of the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) colleagues and experts in the long term care and post-acute care field said the following:

“As our population ages and we face growing challenges to care for our older Americans with grace and dignity, Governor Parkinson’s dedication to finding common-sense solutions will serve the American Health Care Association well. I have enjoyed and respected our working relationship and appreciate his moderate leadership. He has displayed a relentless ability to get things done for Kansas, and I am certain he will do the same at the American Health Care Association.”

-          Chris Gregoire (D)

Governor of Washington

“Mark Parkinson took the helm of the Kansas Governor’s office during one of the most challenging times in Kansas history. By setting politics aside and working across the aisle, he was able to accomplish many things for our state. Thanks to his leadership, the Kansas Legislature had a historic session and our state continues on the road to economic recovery. With his thoughtful, open approach and ability to build consensus, I am confident he will be a successful President and CEO of the American Health Care Association.”

-          Stephen Morris (R)

Kansas Senate President

“As a long term care owner and operator, Mark is the best qualified person to lead our association and its members. He has credibility on the Hill and within the policy community. I am confident that Mark will be able to broadly articulate our message before the media, opinion leaders, and legislators and I am honored to leave this association in such capable hands.”

-          Bruce Yarwood

Outgoing President & CEO, American Health Care Association

“Governor Parkinson is a man who is respected with proven leadership qualities. He has the energy and the insight to be a fabulous advocate for seniors. And because he has been a provider, he understands the delivery of the service also. He is a good choice during “tenuous times” for the profession, especially with the federal changes due to health care reform, the aging of Baby Boomers and new approaches to providing care for seniors.”

-          Cindy Luxem

President of the Kansas Health Care Association

“Mark Parkinson has the real-world experience in both assisted living and skilled nursing care that will greatly benefit NCAL members. He was the right choice at the right time and I look forward to working with him to ensure that quality care and services will always be there for our nation's seniors and disabled".”

-          David Kyllo

Executive Director, National Center for Assisted Living

“Governor Parkinson is a strong choice to lead AHCA/NCAL as our sector increasingly cares for patients who need post-acute and rehabilitative care, as well as chronic long-term care, in skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities across the country.”

-          Alan Rosenbloom,

President of the Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care

"Governor Parkinson brings a unique mix of long-term care experience and public policy know-how. He will most certainly help enhance the conversation about consumer-centric quality and responsible oversight of nursing homes. AAHSA welcomes him to Washington.”

-          Larry Minnix,

President & CEO, American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging

“Governor Parkinson understands the unique intersection between strong Medicare funding from Washington, DC, and state Medicaid funding. His policy experience in this area will serve the post-acute community well.”

-          Cynthia Morton

Executive Vice President, National Association for the Support of Long Term Care

“I have been a frontline caregiver for 27 years in Kansas skilled nursing facilities, and I can honestly convey my complete confidence in Governor Mark Parkinson’s leadership in the long term care community. Our elderly residents and their family members should be encouraged that he will be at the helm navigating long term care policy for our country.”
