Bipartisan Legislation Introduced to Prevent Planned Medicare Part B Cuts in 2023

Advocacy; Medicare; Part B

Congressman Ami Bera, MD (D-CA) and Congressman Larry Bucshon, MD (R-IN) introduced the Supporting Medicare Providers Act of 2022 (H.R. 8800). This legislation would inject a 4.42% infusion into the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor for 2023 to offset the planned 4.42% cut proposed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

AHCA/NCAL has been part of a broad coalition that has been advocating for this relief that would impact the access to care for Medicare Part B services for residents of nursing facilities and assisted living residences. Without such relief, providers of such services, including physicians, physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, portable x-ray suppliers and clinical laboratories, and others, would be disincentivized to provide services in AHCA/NCAL member residences.

AHCA/NCAL will provide updates as this bill progresses through Congress.
