CDC Conducts Biennial NPALS Study

Assisted Living; Research and Data

The CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) is currently fielding the residential care community survey, as part of the sixth wave of its biennial National Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Study (NPALS), formerly the National Study of Long-Term Care Providers (NSLTCP). For this wave, 2,090 residential care communities in all 50 states and the District of Columbia were invited to participate. NCHS has contracted with RTI International, an independent, nonprofit research organization, to collect the NPALS data. Since the beginning of September 2022, RTI has been collecting provider questionnaires by web, mail, and phone.

Communities that are contacted are strongly encouraged to participate. All data collected is kept confidential and only used for statistical purposes. For more information about the NPALS residential care community survey, visit https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/npals/index.htm.
