Elevating Leadership in Long Term Care: NAB's Health Services Executive Pathway

Programs and Resources; Workforce

The National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB) is focused on the future of the long term care profession through its Health Services Executive (HSE) qualifications. Designed to prepare leaders for today's complex healthcare landscape, the HSE combines core knowledge with specialized competencies across nursing home administration, residential care/assisted living, and home and community-based services.

Built on professional practice analysis conducted every five years, the HSE framework equips administrators with the skills needed to lead confidently across the continuum of long term care while supporting greater consistency and mobility between states

To make this pathway even more accessible, NAB has introduced new incentives for current and future leaders:

  • Graduates of NAB-accredited programs may receive a one-time 100% fee reduction for the RCAL and HCBS exams and can take all four licensure exams through NAB within three months before or after graduation.

  • Beginning July 1, 2026, eligible Nursing Home Administrators with at least three years of Administrator of Record experience and a bachelor's degree can receive a one-time 50% fee reduction for the RCAL and HCBS exams through June 30, 2029.

NAB has noted that these initiatives can help reduce financial barriers, accelerate career advancement, and support a more versatile workforce prepared to meet the growing needs of long-term care.
