The Deadline for Reporting Annual HCP Influenza Vaccination Data to NHSN is Fast Approaching on May 15th!

Infection Prevention/Control; Quality; CMS; vaccine

The deadline for reporting health care personnel (HCP) influenza vaccination coverage to the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) is rapidly nearing. This reporting is mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Quality Reporting Program (QRP), with a submission deadline of May 15, 2024.

Failure to report complete data to NHSN by 11:59 PM on May 15th for the SNF QRP will result in a 2% reduction in the SNF’s annual Medicare reimbursement rates. Facilities are strongly advised to avoid waiting until the last moment to report. It is recommended that submitters take a screenshot of the submission verification to use in the event of a notice of noncompliance.

If your facility is experiencing difficulties accessing the NHSN reporting component to submit SNF QRP data, please email NHSN@cdc.gov with "HCP Flu Summary" in the subject line and specify that you are from a long term care (LTC) facility.

For questions regarding CMS SNF QRP requirements, please send emails to SNFQualityQuestions@cms.hhs.gov.

As a reminder, ensure that your facility has an active Facility Administrator logged into NHSN. This role is essential for enrolling in the Healthcare Personnel Safety component and for reporting annual flu data, which is due on May 15, 2024. Only the Facility Administrator has the authority to enroll a facility in one or more NHSN components, reassign the Facility Administrator role, and manage negotiation locations across components. For more information, please refer to the document titled "REMINDER: Review Facility Administrator in NHSN.
