WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), representing more than 15,000 nursing homes and other long term care facilities that provide care to approximately five million people each year, announced that John Kane has been named the association's Senior Vice President of Reimbursement Policy, effective immediately. Kane has more than 15 years of experience in Medicare and Medicaid services, specializing in skilled nursing facility (SNF) payment systems and health care policy development.
“We're excited to welcome John to our team. He brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the long term care sector, which makes him a fantastic addition to our organization and another powerful voice for the profession,” said Clif Porter, president and CEO of AHCA/NCAL. “We’re looking forward to the insight and fresh perspective he’ll bring to the table. John’s leadership will be key as we continue to advocate for better ways to strengthen Medicare and Medicaid, and I’m confident he’ll make a big impact.”
“I'm incredibly honored and excited to step into this new role,” Kane said. “Having spent many years working on SNF payment systems, I know how important our work is, and I’m eager to contribute, learn, and help drive AHCA/NCAL’s mission forward. I’m looking forward to working alongside such a talented and passionate team and supporting solutions that help providers continue to deliver quality care.”
Prior to assuming this role, Kane served as an expert on SNF program and policy issues at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for more than a decade. Notably, Kane spearheaded the creation and implementation of the Patient Driven Payment Model, the Medicare Part A reimbursement model for SNFs, which pays providers based on individual patient needs and characteristics, rather than by volume. He now leads the AHCA/NCAL Reimbursement Policy team to develop sustainable policy solutions to enhance quality care.
Kane replaces the current SVP of Reimbursement Policy Martin Allen, who will retire later this year.
