AHCA/NCAL Announces 2022 Award Recipients

Association recognizes dedication to improving the lives of seniors and individuals with disabilities

AHCA/NCAL Updates; Awards and Recognition; AHCA/NCAL Convention
​​Washington, D.C. – The American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) announced the recipients for the 2022 AHCA/NCAL Awards program today. Each year, AHCA/NCAL recognizes the men and women who generously care for individuals in long term and post-acute care centers, as well as those who represent the best of the assisted living sector. These honorees demonstrate selflessness and compassion while striving to enhance the lives of seniors and individuals with disabilities in their communities. 
 
“Working in long term care is a calling and takes special, dedicated people like this year’s amazing award recipients,” said AHCA/NCAL President and CEO Mark Parkinson. “We are privileged to recognize all of these individuals who consider it their life’s work to serve their residents who rely on this care.”  
 
The 2022 AHCA Awards categories and recipients are: 
 
AHCA Administrator of the Year: This award recognizes an administrator or executive director who demonstrates outstanding innovation, achievement, and capabilities in their provision of high-quality, person-centered care in a service-oriented culture in a long term care facility. 
  • Recipient: Larry Slatky, Shaker Place Rehab Nursing Center – Albany, NY 
 
AHCA Program of the Year: This award recognizes programs that bring together residents, families, staff, volunteers, and the community to celebrate residents and the services provided within a skilled nursing facility. 
  • Recipient: Longevity Fun Run, Forest Hills of DC – Washington, DC 
 
AHCA Noble Caregiver: This award recognizes frontline caregivers, support and office staff from any department for their contributions that lead to improved quality of life for the residents and create a better work environment for the facility's staff. 
  • Recipient: Mario Whitt, Harris Hill Nursing Facility – Williamsville, NY 
 
AHCA Volunteer of the Year: This award recognizes honorees for their volunteer commitment, significantly improving the daily life of the residents.  
  • Recipient: MyRon Zimmer, Bowdle Healthcare Center – Bowdle, SD 
 
The 2022 NCAL Awards categories and recipients are: 
 
NCAL Administrator of the Year: This award recognizes an assisted living administrator or executive director who demonstrates outstanding innovation, achievement, and capabilities in their provision of high-quality person-centered care in a service-oriented culture in an assisted living community. 
  • Recipient: Nicole Ellis, The Cottages of Middleton – Middleton, ID 
 
NCAL Assisted Living Nurse of the Year: This award recognizes a licensed practical or registered assisted living nurse who demonstrates outstanding compassion, supervisory success, innovation, achievement, and capabilities in their provision of high-quality person-centered care in a service-oriented culture in an assisted living community. 
  • Recipient: Doreen Locke, RN, DON, Odd Fellows' and Rebekahs' Home of Maine – Auburn, ME 
 
NCAL Noble Caregiver in Assisted Living: This award recognizes frontline caregivers, support and office staff from any department for their contributions that lead to improved quality of life for the residents and create a better work environment for the assisted living community’s staff. 
  • Recipient: Barbara Quezada, Beehive Homes of Taylor Ranch – Albuquerque, NM 
 
AHCA/NCAL award recipients will be honored at the 73rd AHCA/NCAL Convention & Expo to be held October 9-12, 2022, in Nashville, Tennessee.
