LTC Patient Projections

Over the next three decades, the United States will see unprecedented growth in its senior population as the Baby Boomer generation (born between 1946-1964) ages. Increases in healthcare demands will be seen throughout the healthcare industry, with the greatest impacts anticipated in hospitals, skilled nursing, assisted living, and residential care facilities. The report, 2016-2040 Long-Term Care Patient Volume Projections, uses a profile of Medicare and/or Medicaid-certified long-term care facility residents captured in the 2015 MDS data, and state population projections from the 2000 US Census Bureau survey to estimate future resident volume by State, Age, and Sex for 2016-2040.
