Advocates Engaged

Advocacy; Medicare Advantage

September was an extremely busy month in Washington D.C. for member advocacy!

First, AHCA/NCAL had the pleasure of hosting the members of the Diversity Executive Leadership Program, where they attended a 3-day training course on how to be an impactful leader as well as roundtable discussion on topics such as career development and goal setting. They finished their training by beginning the Political Ambassadors program and meeting with Members of Congress.

Additionally, Texas Nursing Home Coalition brought more than 20 members of the new state association to meet with 26 Texas legislators. They introduced themselves as the new AHCA/NCAL Texas state affiliate, creating strong relations with their Members of Congress, and establishing themselves as the Representatives’ best source on all issues in the long term care profession.

Along with these two groups, we had several other members in town to cover additional offices with key committee members. The main focus of these meetings being Medicare Advantage reform, specifically trying to garner co-sponsors on the Medicare Advantage Improvement Act of 2026 (H.R. 8375), along with other important advocacy goals such as workforce issues, observation stays, and addressing concerns over vertical integration.

The impact we had in September on the Hill was substantial, but let's keep that momentum going while Congress is back in the district for the month of October. Now is the perfect time to invite your Member of Congress to tour your facility or community.

If you need any assistance with tour scheduling or preparations, please contact Heather Posthumus or Ubaldo Martin.
