The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has posted draft Minimum Data Set (MDS) materials for October 2027 and resources to help skilled nursing facilities prepare for Skilled Nursing Facility Quality Reporting Program (SNF QRP) reporting.
MDS resources for October 2027
CMS states that the version 1.21.1 item sets are scheduled to take effect October 1, 2027. Members should use the final materials when they become available.
SNF QRP resources
- SNF QRP FAQs for FY 2027: Updated to reflect finalized FY 2027 policies and provide additional resources for providers.
- FY 2029 SNF QRP APU data elements table: Identifies the MDS items used to determine whether a facility meets the data completion threshold for the FY 2029 annual payment update. The table covers data collected during calendar year 2027.
- FY 2029 SNF QRP data collection and final submission deadlines: Lists collection periods and deadlines by measure. For example, MDS data collected January 1–March 31, 2027, the final submission deadline is May 17, 2027. Members should review the table for the other MDS and NHSN reporting periods.
