Disability Nondiscrimination Laws Now Support People with Long COVID

COVID-19

This week on the 31st anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Justice jointly published guidance on how disability nondiscrimination laws apply to people with "long COVID." This applies to those who may be newly covered because of the impact of the COVID-19 infection.

The guidance discusses when long COVID may be considered a disability under the ADA and other federal civil rights laws. The guidance, along with a directory of resources, is available through programs funded by the Administration for Community Living. It was shared by the White House as part of a comprehensive package of resources for people with disabilities, including those with long COVID and other post-COVID conditions.
