Hospitals are No Longer Required to Submit COVID-19 Hospital Data—No Change to Nursing Home Reporting Requirements

CDC; COVID-19; Infection Prevention/Control; Regulations

Effective May 1, 2024, hospitals are no longer required to report Hospital Respiratory Pathogen, Bed Capacity, and Supply Data (commonly referred to as ‘COVID-19 Hospital’ data) to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) via the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to encourage voluntary reporting of this data by hospitals through NHSN.

**This exemption does not extend to Long-Term Care Facilities (i.e., Nursing Homes), Dialysis Facilities, or Healthcare Personnel (HCP) COVID-19 Vaccination reporting.**

Implications for Nursing Homes:

For those utilizing this data to determine source control measures, the CDC and AHCA advise consulting your local public health department for guidance. AHCA will issue follow-up communications as more information becomes available. Inquiries can be directed to regulatory@AHCA.org
