Infection Prevention/Control; Long Term Care

The National Infection Prevention Forum (NIFP) is an evidence‑based community that now connects over 2,000 infection preventionists (IPs) in long term care. Every day, members post real‑world questions and receive prompt, knowledge‑rich answers from peers and subject‑matter experts. These discussions transform guidelines into clear, practical steps that protect residents and staff. Every post, reply, and resource are grounded in the day‑to‑day realities of long term care.

Alongside the conversations, the NIPF library offers helpful materials to test your knowledge and inform your colleagues:

  • The Clinical Scenarios invite IPs to discuss effective strategies and common missteps, and answer questions to test knowledge on different subjects. Each case reinforces foundational concepts in controlling norovirus outbreaks and using Enhanced Barrier Precautions, which have fresh perspectives useful for both newcomers and veterans in infection prevention.

  • The Hot Topic Briefs and Tip Sheets are intended to highlight timely issues, such as “Bed Bugs and Head Lice,” and focus on practical knowledge or tips that allow IPs to be able to adopt new practices more quickly. One of the most recent Hot Topics, “Understanding and Utilizing Antibiograms,” is packed with valuable information to help you strengthen your facility's approach to antimicrobial stewardship.

In every case, each resource flows from the community’s needs, through community feedback, and back into community practice.
