National Assisted Living Week is Almost Here: Are You Ready?

As we quickly approach National Assisted Living Week® (September 12-20, 2021), now is the time to make sure you are ready for the celebration! This year’s Planning Guide and Product Catalog offers ideas on how to recognize staff, honor residents, and commemorate NALW in safe and meaningful ways. All suggested activities and official products highlight this year’s theme, “Compassion, Community, Caring.”

This theme honors those resilient individuals who worked so hard, went above and beyond, and never gave up during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has been an enormous, unprecedented challenge. But it has also brought together assisted living residents, staff, and everyone in these communities in a way unlike before. When times were tough, staff members were there to lend an ear and their hearts. When mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, sisters, and brothers could not physically be together, caregivers became family. And even when things seemed impossible, essential assisted living staff continued to deliver the highest quality care.

Assisted living communities around the country are encouraged to host a variety of events that celebrate residents, staff, and volunteers while adhering to infection control requirements and precautions in place for COVID-19. Thank you to official sponsor First Quality for supporting this unique and special celebration!

Some suggested activities include:
  • Engaging residents in creative art projects focused on compassion and kindness.
  • Building community through fun events such as drive-by caravans, contests, and live outdoor performances.
  • Showing how much you care through a variety of musical activities.

Share your own activity ideas on the NALW Facebook page.

The guide also connects providers to this year’s NALW official products, which can also be found in AHCA/NCAL’s online bookstore. Get in the spirit with t-shirts, buttons, and posters!

Looking to create your own materials? The NALW website offers two NALW graphics, including this year’s logo, for download. Please make sure to follow our logo policy:

Download the logo for online use as well as professional print products. You may use these files, intact, to promote National Assisted Living Week 2021. All other rights, including the creation of derivative works, are reserved by the National Center for Assisted Living.

Finally, a media toolkit is available to help assisted living providers promote NALW in the community. Materials include a sample media invitation, letter to the editor, press release, proclamation, and social media posts. Feel free to use these sample materials to connect with your local press outlets and spread the word about NALW.
