Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for approximately 170,000 Salvadoran immigrants had been scheduled to end on September 9, 2026. However, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has confirmed that TPS protections—and the related employment authorization of affected beneficiaries—remain valid while the Department of Homeland Security considers further action.
This clarification is important for long term care providers that employ Salvadoran TPS holders. Employers should not assume that these employees lost authorization to work on September 9 or take employment action based solely on that date.
