2023 Gold National Quality Awards Announced

Two skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers recognized for demonstrating superior quality care and exceptional outcomes

Quality Award; Quality
Washington, D.C. – Two Cascadia Healthcare skilled nursing care and rehabilitation centers in Idaho have been recognized with the 2023 Gold – Excellence in Quality award for superior performance in quality care by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL). The award is the last step in three progressive levels of awards through the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program, which recognizes organizations that meet rigorous standards and work for years to become among the best in long term and post-acute care.

This year’s Gold – Excellence in Quality award recipients are:
  • Aspen Park of Cascadia, Cascadia Healthcare, in Moscow, Idaho, and
  • Lewiston Transitional Care of Cascadia, Cascadia Healthcare, in Lewiston, Idaho.

“Congratulations to this year’s extraordinary providers for achieving exceptional performance and care outcomes for their residents and staff,” said Mark Parkinson, President and CEO of AHCA/NCAL. “Their dedication and commitment to the Quality Award journey to become the best in the nation is inspiring. I am so proud of our members for their hard work and ongoing progress in delivering high quality care.”

Gold award recipients have better quality metrics, surveys, and staffing satisfaction than the rest of the nation. Aspen Park of Cascadia are recipients of the 2020 Bronze award and 2021 Silver award. Lewiston Transitional Care of Cascadia are recipients of the 2021 Bronze award and 2022 Silver award.

“This recognition is a testament to the dedication, compassion, and the tireless efforts over the years by these incredible providers,” said Cathy Bergland, AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Board Chair. “They all deserve to be celebrated for their unwavering focus on delivering high-quality care and outcomes for their residents and staff.”

Earning the Gold - Excellence in Quality award requires a long term care facility to achieve both the Bronze - Commitment to Quality and Silver - Achievement in Quality awards prior to moving to the Gold level—an accomplishment that takes several years. Applicants adhere to the core values and criteria of the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program, an organizational improvement tool that strengthens performance in leadership, customer and workforce satisfaction, clinical outcomes and more.

At the first and second levels of the program, more than four hundred recipients were announced earlier this summer, with 399 providers achieving a Bronze - Commitment to Quality award and 72 reaching the Silver - Achievement in Quality award.

The awards will be presented during Delivering Solutions 23, the AHCA/NCAL Convention & Expo, October 1-4, 2023, in Denver, Colorado.

The 2023 National Quality Award Program is sponsored by AHCA/NCAL Associate Business Members: PharMerica, Pinnacle Quality Insight, Prevail by First Quality, HealthCap and MatrixCare.

Applications are now available for the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program 2024 season. Providers are encouraged to submit their intent to apply at ahcancal.org/QualityAward starting August 15, 2023.
