AHCA/NCAL welcomed a record number of long term and post-acute care professionals to Washington, D.C. earlier this week for the annual Congressional Briefing. Taking place at a critical time as the Senate considers the budget reconciliation bill, more than 700 providers gathered to hear from AHCA/NCAL leadership about key issues impacting the profession – such as protecting Medicaid – before taking to Capitol Hill for meetings with members of Congress. During the event, AHCA/NCAL released findings from its latest survey of 363 nursing home providers that reflect deep concern about potential Medicaid reductions that are part of Congress’ reconciliation debate. In particular:
- 92% of nursing home providers are concerned about potential reductions to Medicaid.
- 27% of providers say they would be forced to close their facilities if Medicaid funding is cut.
- 58% would be forced to reduce their current staff if Medicaid funding is cut.
Assisted living providers also took to Capitol Hill because home and community-based waiver programs could be impacted by potential Medicaid reductions. NCAL Executive Director LaShuan Bethea reinforced the importance of sharing impactful stories when meeting with elected officials.
AHCA/NCAL each year also recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in advocating for the needs of the long term care profession. This year’s prestigious Joe Warner Patient Advocacy Award recipients included Kathy E. Gallin, vice president of legislative affairs at Signature Healthcare and Joseph DeMattos, former CEO of the Health Facilities Association of Maryland.
The 2026 AHCA/NCAL Congressional Briefing will be held June 8-9 in Washington, D.C. at the Hyatt Regency Washington.
